Bhatkal: The triennial elections of Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem have brought in a major generational shift, with more than half of the newly elected executive committee members being first-time entrants and a larger representation of youth in the organisation’s governing body.
Voting was held on May 12 in eight constituencies across Bhatkal, resulting in the election of 24 members. Earlier, 20 candidates from seven constituencies had already been declared elected unopposed.
The most closely watched contest took place in Constituency No. 14, where 10 candidates contested for five seats. Polling for this constituency was conducted at Al Falah Sports Centre in Kargadde, where voter turnout stood at 75.43 per cent.
With the completion of the Bhatkal phase, the process of constituting the organisation’s 132-member executive council with representatives from Bhatkal and other regions has substantially progressed.
Election Commissioner Mohiuddin Altaf Kharoori said the induction of a significant number of fresh faces into the executive body has infused renewed energy into the organisation and is expected to strengthen its future activities.
