Youth arrested for sexually assaulting nursing student

Mangaluru: The Uppinangady police have arrested a youth from the Belthangady taluk on Friday, August 10, for allegedly entering a ladies' hostel in Mysuru and sexually assaulting a woman, a nursing student.
The accused, Mohammed Althaf (23), a resident of Bantwal, had absconded after the incident.
Reportedly, on July 20, Althaf gained entry into the ladies' hostel of the K R Hospital in Mysuru after threatening the security guard and molested the nursing student. He then fled from the spot but, not before he was caught on CCTV cameras. Althaf has also been accused of stealing the ladies' garments from the hostel.
This incident caused a huge uproar in Mysuru and the police were also pressurised by local associations to make an arrest soon.
A team led by Uppinangady police sub-inspector Nanda Kumar, with the help of a report from the Devaraj police station in Mysuru, arrested Althaf while he was at work in a farm in Belthangady near here.
