Woman sues doctors for ‘wrongly diagnosing’ tumour as pregnancy

CHENNAI: A woman, who alleged that she was wrongly diagnosed for a tumour in her abdomen as pregnancy by doctors of Kasturba Government Maternity Hospital at Triplicane has approached the Madras High Court seeking a compensation of `five lakh besides appropriate action against the doctors and other staff members, who had erred. Justice T Raja before whom the petition from Asina Begum came up on July 27 last, issued notice to the Health secretary,  Medical Education director and the hospital director, returnable in two weeks. Begum, who got married in 2009, said  she approached the hospital on April 11, 2016 as she had no regular periods. She alleged that the doctors attached to ANOP unit examined her and declared that she was pregnant. It gave her and her family members great joy as it was the first time she conceived. The doctors also gave a tentative delivery date of November 18, 2016 and ‘valaikappu’ ceremony was performed by the family on October 16, 2016. Source: Indian Express
