Tension grips Kundapur and Gangolli ahead of Hindu Samajotsava; Section 144 imposed

Kundapur - Communal tension erupted in Kundapura and Gangolli with some miscreants pelting stones at the bike rally organized as part of the Hindu Samajothsava, organized by Sri Hanumad Shakthi Jagaran Abhiyan, slated for Monday.

Miscreants pelted stones at the participants of the bike rally, started from Kodi, when it reached Shasthry Circle, in Kundapura city.

When it was retaliated tension erupted at around 1 pm. Miscreants set ablaze a Honda Activa and damaged several shops and houses in the city.

The tension broke out in Gangolly town too, resulting in pelting of stones and damaging the shops. SP Praveen Pawar along with Anti Naxal Squad rushed to the spot and took the situation in to control. A few injured in the stone pelting have been admitted to the Hospitals.

In this connection 14 people, including three from Kundapura, have been arrested, SP said.

It is to be noted here that many of the people had smelt a communal tension in the area, as the tearing of banners of Hindu Samajothsava at Kandlur was reported on Saturday.

Peace efforts:

Peace committee meetings were held at Kundapura and Gangolli. Though it was demanded to postpone the Hindu Samajothsava, local MLA Laxminarayana and local leader Krishnaprasad Adyanthaya were stubborn to holding the same on Monday, it is learnt.
