Southwest monsoon set in over Kerala bringing copious rains in several parts of the state today, the India Meteorological Department said.

All the major parameters showed the onset of SW monsoon over Kerala and conditions were favourable for its further advance into remaining parts of Arabian sea and some parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in the next two to three days, the IMD station here said.

The arrival of monsoon, which lasts till September, almost matched IMD's forecast of its onset between May 27 and June 4, station director K Santhosh said.

More than 60 per cent of rain monitoring stations in Kerala registered rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 0820 hrs.

Flow of wind from western direction and persistent clouds over the Arabian Sea, Kerala Coast and over the Lakshadweep islands were some conditions that favoured the onset of the monsoon, the official said.
