Second phase of monsoon begins in Karnataka with heavy rainfall expected

Mangaluru, Aug 17: The second phase of the monsoon began in Karnataka on August 16, with the State India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an alert.

According to IMD officials, heavy rains are expected to lash Karnataka from August 16 to 20. The rain fury is predicted to continue in Silicon City, Bengaluru, for the next five days, with heavy downpours also anticipated in the Malnad and northern interior regions of the state.

Rain alerts have been declared in Udupi, Bidar, Shivamogga, Dakshina Kannada, Kalaburagi, Yadagir, Vijayapura, and Davanagere districts. The south interior parts of Karnataka are also expected to experience heavy rainfall. As a result, the inflow of water into some reservoirs is likely to increase, with water levels in dams expected to rise further over the next two days.

In particular, Ourad in Bidar received 5 cm of rain on August 16, while Hukkeri also recorded 5 cm, Chitradurga 7 cm, and Chamarajanagar and Bandipur 5 cm each.

Most districts in southern Karnataka, including Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Hassan, Mandya, Ramanagara, and Chamarajanagar, have been placed on rain alert by the IMD.
