Salary of guest lecturers increased

The State government has increased the remuneration of guest lecturers of first-grade colleges who have passed the national eligibility and the State eligibility tests and have Ph.D. degree, from ₹11,500 to ₹13,000. Announcing this in the Legislative Council on Friday, Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi said the revised remuneration would be paid with effect from this month. The remuneration for those who have completed post-graduation has been increased from ₹9,500 to ₹11,000. Similarly, for guest lecturers working in the Technical Education Department, the remuneration has been increased from ₹7,500 to ₹9,500.

The lecturers have been demanding an upward revision of remuneration to ₹25,000. Across the State, there are 14,531 guest lecturers. They have gone on strike several times to demand a pay hike and regularisation of their services.
