Chennai, April 25: A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable managed to overpower a man while the latter was trying to sexually abuse a woman aboard a train. Late on Monday night, K Shivaji, the constable, was aboard an MRTS train along with his night patrol squad that also comprised a sub-inspector and another constable. At around 11.45 pm, they heard screams from the ladies’ compartment. The train had just left the Chintadripet station, reports The Times of India. Since MRTS trains don’t allow for inter-coach movement, Shivaji waited till the train slowed down at Park Town station. As the train arrived at the new station, Shivaji hopped out, got onto the other coach and managed to catch S Satyaraj while he was trying to sexually assault a 26-year-old woman. In the meantime, his patrol team joined him. Satyaraj has since been arrested and booked for rape. The woman he was trying to assault was found unconscious with her lips bleeding and her clothes torn. She was admitted to hospital where her condition was said to be stable. GRP IGP Pon Manickavel met the woman at the hospital and also announced a reward of Rs 5,000 for the RPF man. Crimes against women have been on the rise lately even though some would disagree. Recently, BJP MP from Mathura, Hema Malini had said that it was possible crimes happened earlier also, it was just that now they got publicised more. She said media made it appear like crimes against women and children were on the rise. Source: India.com
