Dubai – Light showers and a cool breeze set the right mood for the series opener of the Danube Bhatkal Premier League (BPL) played between Chilly Willy Challengers and PMG Strikers. Winning the toss, the Challengers chose to bat first, opening with Nasrullah Askeri and Nabeel Karikal who put up an opening stand of 30 runs.
PMG Strikers capitalized on the first wicket and continued to make regular inroads with Mustafa Lawna, Wafique DA, Akhlaque Mohtesham, Tawseef Kashimji, Zia Misba and Sadaf Peshmam failing to reach double digits. The Challengers lost wickets at regular intervals with Taha Muallim and Afzal S.J. sharing six wickets between them as the team crumbled to a measly total of 90 runs only.
Pitch covers had to come on during the innings break as the rain got heavier during the match and play was delayed by 20 minutes.
The Strikers played with ease and completed the target in 11.3 overs bagging the first three points of the tournament. Safwaan starred for the team with an unbeaten knock of 23. Match officials declared Afzal S.J. as the Man of the Match for his figures of 3 for 15.
