Bengaluru: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that rainfall will continue across most parts of Karnataka until May 21, with several districts likely to receive showers accompanied by thunder and lightning.

In a statement issued on Monday, the weather department said rain is expected in coastal Karnataka as well as in north interior and south interior parts of the state.

The districts likely to receive rainfall include Koppal, Dharwad, Gadag, Vijayanagara, Haveri, Davanagere, Shivamogga, Vijayapura, Yadgir, Raichur, Bagalkote, Belagavi, Ballari, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural and Chamarajanagar.

The IMD said some parts of south interior Karnataka may experience heavy rainfall along with thunder and lightning.

For Bengaluru and surrounding districts, the department has predicted generally cloudy skies, with increased cloud formation during the afternoon and rainfall likely during the evening hours.

The forecast comes as several parts of Karnataka have already witnessed pre-monsoon showers over the past few days, bringing relief from the intense summer heat.
