Railway pointsman saves youth from falling between train and platform at Murdeshwar Station

Bhatkal: A potentially fatal accident was averted at Murdeshwar railway station on Sunday morning after a railway pointsman rescued a young man who slipped while attempting to get off a moving train.

 

The incident occurred at around 7.56 am as Train No. 16312 (Up) was leaving the station. Mohammed Gaufur (22) allegedly tried to alight after the train had started moving. In the process, he lost his balance and began slipping into the gap between the train and the platform.

 

Noticing the danger, pointsman Ganapati Naik, who was on duty at the station, immediately rushed to the spot. Acting swiftly, he grabbed the youngster and pulled him towards the platform, preventing him from falling beneath the moving train.

 

Ganapati Naik continued to hold the youth securely until the train had completely passed, ensuring his safety and averting what could have been a tragic accident.

 

His presence of mind, courage and prompt action have drawn appreciation from the public and railway authorities alike.

 

Konkan Railway Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Santosh Kumar Jha has announced a cash reward of ₹10,000 for Ganapati Naik in recognition of his exemplary service, Konkan Railway Mangaluru Division Public Relations Manager K. Sudha Krishnamurthy said.
