Poultry farm destroyed, over 500 chickens die due to storm in Byndoor

Kundapur, May 18: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds on Saturday and Sunday nights caused extensive damage to property and crops in several parts of Byndoor taluk in Udupi district.

 

A poultry farm belonging to Pradeep at Hosuru in Yadtare village was completely destroyed in the storm, resulting in losses estimated at more than Rs 8 lakh. More than 500 chickens in the farm are reported to have died.

 

The rain was also accompanied by lightning, which damaged electrical equipment and electric fences in areas including Taggarse, Byndoor and Shiruru.

 

In Shiruru village, a jackfruit tree fell on the house of Saraswathi Ganapathi Mesta of Kotemane, causing damage estimated at over Rs 70,000.

 

Large-scale damage was also reported to arecanut plantations, banana crops and other agricultural plants in the affected areas.

 

Vijaya Kumar, the village accountant of Shiruru, visited the damaged sites and conducted an inspection.
