Police personnel attacked while trying to stop fight in Murdeshwar

Bhatkal: Two police personnel and a youth were injured after a rowdy-sheeter and his associates allegedly attacked them with knives while they were trying to intervene in a fight near the main arch at Murdeshwar late Saturday night.

Head constable Sangappa and constable Vinayak Shetty sustained serious injuries in the attack and were shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment. The injured local youth, identified as Manoj, was treated at a hospital in Murdeshwar.

According to reports, police reached the spot after receiving information about a quarrel. When the personnel tried to intervene and stop the fight, the accused allegedly attacked them with knives before fleeing the scene.

A case has been registered at the Murdeshwar police station against rowdy-sheeter Raju and his associates Rithik, Madan Naik, Yogesh and Darshan. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
