Davanagere: The District Crime Branch police rescued a girl and nabbed three women of a gang that was forcing underage girls into prostitution here.
District Superintendent of Police (SP) R Chetan informed media on August 10 that the police had arrested three women-Geeta (33), Anita alias Kavya (34) and Roopa (28), all residents of Davanagere-for forcing underage girls into prostitution. They had been booked earlier for similar crimes, the SP added.
The police are on a lookout for the kingpin of the racket Shivu and the others involved in the case.
Detailing the modus operandi, the SP said, the trio would abduct underage girls from various places, including Davanagere and Gadag, and then use them to run flesh trade. They would mainly target unsuspecting girls found at railway stations and bus stops.
However, the rescue may have come very late for the underage girl rescued by the police. It is gathered that she has tested positive for the dreaded HIV infection.
