Bhatkal, 01 July: (Bhatkallys News Bureau)  As part of an intensified drive against the illegal sale and transportation of narcotic substances in Uttara Kannada district, a police dog squad from Karwar conducted inspections at courier service centres and post offices in Bhatkal on Wednesday.

The operation involved specially trained sniffer dogs, which were used to examine parcels, packages and consignments kept at the courier establishments. The team also searched different sections of the offices to detect any suspected narcotic substances or other prohibited materials.

Following the inspection, police officials advised employees of courier agencies and postal departments to remain alert and immediately inform the police if they come across any suspicious parcels or packages.

According to police, the exercise is part of a broader campaign launched to curb the growing menace of drug trafficking and consumption in the district. Officials said similar inspections and surveillance drives will continue at transport hubs and parcel handling facilities as part of ongoing enforcement efforts.

The police have appealed to the public and logistics service providers to cooperate with the department by reporting any suspicious activity that could be linked to the movement of narcotic substances.
