Hme minister G Parameshwara on Friday said the state government would constitute peace committees involving Africans and locals in every locality that has foreign student population.
Parameshwara told media that the government would issue directives to hold these peace committees to discuss and understand the "cultural clash" between the Africans and the locals."When I visited the spot on February 4, I was told the Africans drink a lot and play loud music late into the night. Obviously there is bound to be a culture clash. We will have these peace committees to discuss these issues and build a peaceful cohabitation," he added.
As part of long-term measures, he said, colleges and private institutions would be asked to mandatorily inform the government about admission of foreign students. According to him, most problems involve students who have to secured additional time to complete their courses.
"Many a time, the government does not have any idea about foreign students admitted to various colleges in the state. Only the consulates and the high commissions have a brief idea when they are issued the visas.Otherwise there is no intimation to us about their whereabouts. We will ask the educational institutions to share the details of these foreign students," he said.
