Bhatkal: Rubbishing the rumours doing rounds on local social media groups adding that at least four doctors attached to Taluka Government Hospital in Bhatkal were COVID-19 infected, Bhatkal Assistant Commissioner Bharat confirmed that the reports were untrue and were merely rumors being spread on social media.
Speaking to Bhatkallys.com over the phone, Bharat said the doctors had not tested positive for the virus.
“The statistics and data are managed directly by the State government and the updated stats are released to media twice a day. Have you received the names of Bhatkal doctors in the government’s data? There is no mention of their names even in the latest news, so that is the end of the story” Bharat said adding that the reports on social media platforms were untrue.
“Anything about the new cases of Corona Virus in the Bhatkal sub-division is to be confirmed by me, and I can surely confirm that no doctor at Bhatkal government hospital has tested positive for the virus” Bharat added.
He further added that there was no need for the people to panic about the situation and that it was safe to visit and consult doctors at Bhatkal government hospital.
He also called on people to not spread unverified messages on social media adding that strict action will be taken against those found to be spreading the rumours and unverified messages. He then added that the media representatives should also come forward in busting such rumours by confirming every input with the officials before publishing it in their publications.
