Muharram moon sighted in Bhatkal, June 17 to mark Islamic new year

Bhatkal: The Islamic New Year has begun in Bhatkal following the sighting and confirmation of the Muharram moon by the town's Qazis.

With the moon sighted on Tuesday evening, June 17, has been declared the first day of Muharram and the beginning of the Islamic year 1448 AH.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and is considered one of the important months in Islam.

According to the Islamic calendar, Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, will be observed on June 26.
