Bhatkal: The Mogaveera community and various fishermen’s organisations have urged the Karnataka government to once again assign the Fisheries and Ports portfolio to Bhatkal-Honnavar MLA Mankal Vaidya during the upcoming expansion of the state cabinet.

Addressing a press conference, Mogaveera community president Annapa Mogaveera said Mankal Vaidya had made significant contributions to the development of the coastal region during his earlier tenure as Fisheries Minister.

He said Vaidya had played an important role in the development of minor ports, addressing the concerns of fishermen and ensuring relief for victims of sea-related accidents.

Annapa Mogaveera also stressed that the government should continue its tradition of providing adequate representation to smaller communities in the cabinet in the interest of social justice.

Community vice-president Bhaskar Mogaveera said a delegation would soon meet the Chief Minister and submit a formal memorandum seeking a cabinet berth and the Fisheries portfolio for Mankal Vaidya.

Several leaders of the organisation, including Bhaskar Daimane, Narayana Chobbimane, F.K. Mogaveera and Devidas Mogaveera, were present at the press conference.
