Mangaluru: Bangladeshi girls rescued from lodge at Pumpwell circle

Mangaluru: Based on a tip-off regarding human trafficking racket, the Kadri police conducted a raid at a lodge in Pumpwell, on Friday, June 22 and busted a prostitution racket that was being carried out from the premises. In the raid, the officials rescued six Bangladeshi girls, including four minors from Annapoorna lodge in Pumpwell here and detained 15 persons in connection to the case. The main accused Shivarama Poojary, however, managed to escape the police. The police also seized cash, including Bangladeshi currency and several mobile phones during the raid. As per the information passed on by Odanadi, a Mysuru-based NGO and Childline, it was suspected that girls were held kept captive in a secret chamber on the third floor of the lodge and were being forced into prostitution. Hence the organization sought help from the local police to raid the lodge. Source: News Karnataka
