Mad Rush for Petrol as Karnataka Border Residents Line up in Goa

Panaji, Apr 3: As expected, people residing around Karnataka - Goa border are rushing to Goa to grab litres and litres of petrol for their vehicles. The new petrol price was introduced in Goa on Saturday March 31 midnight. By Sunday evening, almost all petrol pumps around Polem, a place near Goa-Karnataka border were closed down after running out of stock!

In Karnataka petrol costs Rs 74 per litre, but in Goa, after the recent reduction in the price, it sells for Rs 54!

According to the petrol pump staff at Polem, Karnataka registration vehicles are pouring in, consuming almost 75% of their stock on day one.

A petrol pump owner said that this could prove costly for the petrol pumps in Goa, as there are huge queues of Karnataka vehicles lined up everywhere. This will affect the local Goans who will be deprived of their share, he felt. "It would be better if Goa government brings a new rule that petrol should be reserved only for Goan registered vehicles," he said. But he also agreed that such a rule would not be practical.

Some sources have told that people with vehicles that have large storage capacity, fill them with petrol which they sell in Karnataka for a smaller price than its actual market rate.

Anything can be possible, as long as there is no uniformity in the products sold in different states!
