Bhatkal: A low-flying aircraft seen over Bhatkal and nearby areas during the past two days has sparked curiosity and concern among residents. Videos of the aircraft have also gone viral on social media, with many people speculating about its purpose.
According to officials, the aircraft is part of an airborne geophysical survey being conducted by the Geological Survey of India (GSI). The survey aims to identify potential mineral deposits beneath the ground in areas considered to have geological potential.
Authorities said the survey is being carried out using a Cessna Caravan 208B aircraft equipped with advanced scientific instruments, including magnetic and radiometric sensors. The aircraft is required to fly at low altitudes in order to collect accurate geological data.
Officials clarified that the operation is fully authorised and there is no reason for the public to panic. Similar survey flights are currently being conducted across several districts of Karnataka and are expected to continue over the coming weeks.
The administration has appealed to the public not to spread unverified information or rumours regarding the low-flying aircraft.
