Lockdown Effect: Elderly person in Karnataka dies of starvation

Belagavi: Beggars, refugees and the poor have been suffering ever since the announcement of country-wide lockdown due to the spread of Coronavirus. An elderly man on Sunday was found dead inside a KSRTC Bus Stand at Athani town here. It has been learnt that the unidentified aged person was staying in the bus stand itself after bus services were completely disrupted post shutdown declaration. Locals alleged that all the hotels were closed due to the lockdown and that the elderly person died of starvation. The dead body was found when pourakarmikas came to clean the bus stand. The Athani municipal staff then removed the body and performed the funeral. The incident took place in the limits of  Athani police station. Source : Vartha Bharati
