Lawyer shot dead by highway robbers, decamp with car near Allahabad

Allahabad - 13 July 2011 (PTI): In an early morninghighway robbery, two motorcycle-borne assailants shot dead a lawyer and took away his car after forcing other occupants to leave the vehicle inHandia areanear Allahabad, police said.

The incident took place in Handia police station area, around 40 km from Allahabad, when the victim Rajesh Kumar Agrahari, who had come to Allahabad along with his father and a colleague, was on his way back home to Robertsganj, Inspector of Handia police station Awadhesh Kumar Nigam said.

The victims were waylaid by the assailants when they were travelling by the hired car. The armed men also opened fire killing Agrahari on the spot and forcing his father, colleague and the car driver to alight before decamping with the vehicle.

One of the armed men was reportedly donning "a fake khaki uniform", which made the driver think that they were policemen and hence he slowed down instead of trying to speed away, Nigam said, adding a case has been registered and investigations are on.
