Kuwait's ruling emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah passes away

Kuwait, Dec 16: On Saturday December 16, His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, passed away, as announced by the Amiri Diwan.

In response to this significant loss, the Kuwaiti government declared a three-day holiday and a 40-day period of mourning. The Kuwait municipality, in coordination with various agencies, announced that flags would be flown at half-mast across the country as a symbol of mourning for the late Amir.

Mohammad Al-Mutairi, the spokesperson for the municipality, stated that measures were being taken to lower the flags of all ministries, state agencies, and main roads during this mourning period. The municipality's teams are prepared to ensure the proper implementation of these arrangements.

In a meeting chaired by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the cabinet formally invited Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad to assume the role of Amir following the transition. In response to this change, deputy Prime Minister and minister of national assembly and cabinet affairs, Issa Al-Kandari, declared a 40-day mourning period. Furthermore, he announced the suspension of work in government departments and institutions for three days as a mark of respect for the late Amir.
