A four-year-old boy, who was kidnapped on Saturday night, was rescued by the police within 12 hours. The Mahadevapura police on Sunday arrested two people, including an employee of the Horticulture Department, for kidnapping the boy, Nithin. The arrested are Manjunath (31), a resident of Garudacharapalya in K.R. Puram, and his friend Madhu, an autorickshaw driver of Kaverinagar. The police said the duo had initially hatched a plan to kill the Nithin’s uncle Balakrishna, who allegedly had a relationship with Manjunath’s wife. Balakrishna, who learnt about their plan, had gone missing since Thursday. Manjunath then planned to kidnap Nithin, the police said. Around 11 p.m. on Saturday, Manjunath and Madhu went to the house of Geetha, Balakrishna’s sister. They told Geetha that Balakrishna had met with an accident and offered to take her to hospital, the police said. An unsuspecting Geetha took her two children, Nithin and an eight-month-old baby, and went with them in an auto. On the way, Geetha told the duo that she had to go to her relative’s house in K.R. Puram and was taken there. When she went inside the house with her baby, the duo kidnapped Nithin. Later, Geetha approached the police. The police, after learning about the rivalry between Manjunath and Balakrishna, traced the mobile phone network of the accused. They were traced to Boodikote in Kolar, from where Nithin was rescued on Sunday. -The Hindu
