BENGALURU: A 6 year old boy kidnapped by a relative was rescued in the nick of time by Ashok Nagar police. The police arrested two persons- 25 year old Gagan and Clinton for the kidnap, just as Clinton had reached the City Railway station with Jishnu (the victim) to get away from Bangalore. On Wednesday evening, Jishnu, a 4th standard student of Cathedral High School on Richmond Road returned home from school around 4 pm. His father Anand, who works in the internal courier section of Wipro was at home as his wife had gone to Tamil Nadu to visit her relatives. As usual, Jishu went out to play. Around 6 pm, Anand went out to call Jishu and send him for tuitions, but could not find him. He asked a few people and Jishnu's friends in the neighbourhood who told Anand that they had seen Jishnu get on a bike with two others. Some of them identified Gagan, who is Anand's grand nephew (his elder sister's daughter's son). Anand immediately called Gagan, who admitted to taking Jishnu on his bike to buy chocolate but that he dropped him back after that. Some passersby even told Anand that they saw Jishnu getting off Gagan's bike. Unable to find Jishnu despite searching everywhere, Anand decided to file a complaint at the Ashok Nagar police station. The police began questioning neighbours and are told about Gagan. Although the police are suspicious about Gagan, they have nothing more to go on him. His phone is switched off. Meanwhile, around 8 pm, Gagan reaches Anand's house to join in the search. The police suspected that it was a known person who kidnapped Jishnu simply because he wasn't screaming or crying when he was taken on the bike. "Gagan came across as being very concerned. But something didn't add up about him. He had no proper answer for why his phone was switched off. While talking to Anand, we realised that Gagan and Anand had some issues," police officiers investigating the case said. Gagan used to live with Anand for about a year before Anand decided it was enough and packed him off to his mother's place in BTM Layout. Gagan was a Marijuana addict and used to waste his time hanging around with some friends behind on Puliyar Koyil street (behind Garuda mall) where Anand's house is.Anand didn't like this and often complained about it. The police began questioning Gagan in detail and soon, he began unravelling and told them about how his friend Clinton and he had hatched the plan. However, he wouldn't tell the police where Clinton and Jishnu were. "Considering cases of the last one year, we knew that time was of the essence. Both Clinton and Gagan were youngsters who were addicted to marijuana. We didn't know how Clinton would react in a situation like this. Also, Jishnu knew both Clinton and Gagan and so, there was a possibility that Clinton would even kill Jishnu simply to get away with the kidnap," police officers said. The police tried to locate Clinton's phone and realised that he was in Bennignahalli near KR Puram. Their plan was to take a train to Shivamogga. Gagan had asked Clinton to wait there while he checked in on the situation at home, police said. The police made Gagan call Clinton who told him to continue as per plan, which was to meet at the City Railway station, from where the three would go to Shimoga. However, when Clinton reached the station with Gagan, the police were already waiting for him. -TOI
