The Indian Science Congress returns to Karnataka after 12 years -and Mysuru after 33 years -on Sunday. The last time Karnataka hosted the ISC was in 2003, when it was held in Bengaluru. The state capital has hosted ISC eight times. In 1982, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi inaugurated the 69th ISC at the amphi theatre on the University of Mysore campus, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurate the 2016 edition on January 3. Chikkasiddegowda, 69, a retired geography professor, recalled that the 69th ISC was inaugurated by Indira Gandhi at the amphi theatre.Chikkasiddegowda, who was then a lecturer at Maharaja's college, said exhibitions were organized at respective departments of science and there were seminars and paper presentations. For the first time in 103 years, the Indian Science Congress will see bouncers controlling crowds. At the request of the organizers, event managers have hired nearly 100 bouncers, all below the age of 35, to manage the crowd at the event, which will see nearly 20,000 participants.
Around 90 per cent of the bouncers are locals and have received special briefing on the nature of the event."Given that these bouncers are generally employed at parties and pubs, we had to tell them where to draw the line. The nature of their job will be to identify problems and warn people. They have been clearly told that they can't put people outside the venue," said one of the event managers.
These men, dressed black t-shirts and denims, will be present on all the five days.
