Journalists' Day celebrated in Bhatkal; Social contributors honoured

Bhatkal: Journalists' Day was observed in Bhatkal on July 1 with a function organised by the Bhatkal Taluk Working Journalists' Association (Karnataka) at the auditorium of New English School and College.

 

The programme was presided over by the association's president Mohan Naik. Uttara Kannada Working Journalists' Association Vice-President Maruti Naik attended as the chief guest. Former Principal of Anjuman Degree College and PG Centre Zameerullah Shareef and the Principal of New English School were among the guests.

 

As part of the annual celebration, individuals who have made notable contributions in different fields were felicitated for their service to society.

 

Social worker Govind Guruji, recognised for his work in promoting yoga, was honoured with a shawl and a citation. Newspaper distributor Manjunath Devadiga, who has been delivering newspapers to readers every day, was also felicitated with a shawl and a certificate of appreciation in recognition of his dedicated service.

 

Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted the importance of responsible journalism and the role of the media in a democratic society. They said journalism extends beyond reporting events and plays a crucial role in creating public awareness, promoting accountability and guiding society.

 

Students attending the programme interacted with the speakers and listened to discussions on the responsibilities of journalists. Members of the media fraternity also reiterated their commitment to carrying out their professional duties with sincerity, integrity and a sense of public responsibility.
