ICGS Savitribai Phule rescues stranded fishing crew

Mangaluru: A fishing boat with a crew of 11 members was rescued by the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Savitribai Phule after it got stranded near the Surathkal shore in the early hours of May 22. The ICGS was out on a routine patrol when it received a VHF call from the boat, St. Jude at 7.30 am. The ICGS reached the boat at 9.45 am the crew along with the technical team boarded the fishing boat. The boat had been adrift since May 21 after it suffered an engine failure. The technical staff of the ICGS was able to fix the boat’s engine at sea and start it once again. The crew of the boat was provided with the required logistics support and medical care, following which the crew of the fishing boat sailed the boat into the fishing harbour on their own.
