Bengaluru 25 August 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Congress leader and former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, on Friday sent the state's political circle into a frenzy when he said he will become the Chief Minister of the state once again while speaking at Holenarasipur in Hassan district on Friday 24 August.
His statement has reportedly created ripples in the JD(s) and Congress camps and speculation of threat of survival to the coalition government led by CM HD Kumaraswamy has since been on the rise.
"I want to become CM, and I will, some of my opponents from within the party ganged up against me during the state assembly elections earlier this year, which kept me away from the post, but in politics things keep changing" Siddaramaiah told reporters in Holenarasipur, without naming the 'opponents'.
The state Congress has been struggling to keep its leaders and legislators together, with factional feuds dominating the three months of the party's first three months into the coalition government. Reportedly many of its senior leaders and legislators are upset for being denied ministerial berth in the coalition government.
Siddaramiah is currently the chairman of the coordination and monitoring committee of the chairman and is also reportedly unhappy with the working of the government. He had recently expressed doubt over the survival of the government post parliamentary elections which are due next year.
However, the Congress high command from the National capital had rebutted that there was no threat to the coalition government and had assured that HDK will complete his five years term.
When reporters asked HDK for his comments on the statement of Siddaramaiah, HDK said "Let him become CM, Good" and further refused to take questions in this regard.
The Congress party had offered CM post to HDK, on the eve of assembly elections on May 12 this year to keep the BJP away from forming the power when it emerged as the single largest party in the elections with no party securing majority required to form the government.
