I made a mistake, Karnataka voters will not: Amit Shah on Yeddyurappa blooper

Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah has a comeback to the Congress 'rejoicing' over a recent tongue-slip that saw him inadvertently calling BS Yeddyurappa -- a BJP man --"corrupt". "In a slip of tongue, I said that Yeddyurappa government is corrupt instead of Siddaramaiah's, and the entire Congress party started to rejoice I might have made a mistake," Shah said before delivering the denouement: "The people of Karnataka will not [make a mistake]." Shah was speaking in Mysuru, a stop on his multi-day election tour of poll-bound Karnataka. Elections to the legislative assembly there are just over a month away. Karnataka will vote on May 12 while results for the election will be declared three days later, on May 15. It was on the day the dates for the Karnataka election were announced that Amit Shah made the blooper. Speaking at a press conference, Shah said, "Bhrashtachar keliye agar spardha kar li jaaye to Yeddyurappa sarkar ko bhrashtachar mein number one sarkar ka award zurur milega [If ever there is a competition on the most corrupt, then Yeddyurappa government will be awarded number one]." Yeddyurappa is a Bharatiya Janata Party leader and a former chief minister of Karnataka. He is also the party's CM-face in the Karnataka assembly election, something which is extraordinary on its own as the BJP usually does not announce chief ministerial candidates beforehand. Yeddyurappa is up against incumbent CM Siddaramaiah, who is the Congress's chief ministerial candidate. Shah's blooper on Tuesday saw the Congress go to town with a taunt that the BJP chief was "speaking the truth". "The Truth can never be Suppressed. Even Amit Shah agrees that Yeddyurappa led the Most Corrupt Government ever. #BJP420," tweeted the Karnataka Congress from its verified account, @INCKarnataka. Congress's social media head Divya Spandana also posted a dig at Amit Shah's slip of tongue. "Who knew @AmitShah could also speak the truth - we all concur with you Amit ji. @BSYBJP is the most corrupt!" she tweeted. (With inputs from ANI)
