Govt releases Rs. 45 lakh for chair at JNU

Karnataka Government has released Rs. 45 lakh to set up Kannada Study Chair at Jawaharlal Nehru University in the national capital, according to President of Delhi Karnataka Sangha Vasanth Shetty Bellare. In a statement, Mr. Bellare said setting up of the chair would provide an opportunity for the growth and study of the language which has already received the classical language status. Stating the development was the result of efforts of the Sangha which had constituted a committee for this purpose in 2013. The Committee had submitted a detailed proposal to JNU’s rector Sudha Pai and its Vice Chancellor Sudhir Kumar Sopory. JNU in turn had given a detailed report regarding funds and facilities required which was forwarded to Government of Karnataka for further action. In August, the State Government had deputed an official for discussions with JNU authorities. JNU had made it clear that the things could start happening the moment funds are released. Subsequently delegation from the Sangha had met various people in positions of power including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. -The Hindu
