Former Zilla Panchayat president and Bhatkal MLA candidate Damodhar Narayan Gardikar no more

Bhatkal 4 September 2018: Former President of Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat and a senior leader of ‘Namadhari Samaj’ Damodhar Narayan Gardikar breathed his last at a private hospital of Bengaluru here on Tuesday 4 September. Gardikar who is popularly known as ‘Damanna’ was diagnosed with a liver disease and was admitted in a private hospital of Bengaluru and was waiting for transplantation of the liver. Gardikar also contested assembly elections in 1989 on Janata Dal ticket, where he lost to RN Naik of INC to a mere 2,092 votes in a close contest. He was also a maternal uncle of Bhatkal-Honnavar MLA Sunil Naik. Gardikar was also a university blue player of Karnataka University Dharwad in volleyball, from Anjuman Arts, Science and Commerce college. (Bhatkallys News Bureau/ Rizwan Gangavali/ Fristen Dias)
