Former Kerala CM Karunakaran is dead

Thiruvananthapuram, December 23: Veteran Congress leader K. Karunakaran, who was four times chief minister of Kerala, died in a hospital here Thursday, doctors said. He was 92.

Karunakaran, who was admitted to a private hospital in the city on December 10, was taken off the ventilator last week after his condition had improved.

But on Wednesday morning he had another bout of breathlessness and the doctors at Ananthapuri Hospital put him back on ventilator.

Karunakaran had been admitted to hospital on more than two occasions this year. In November last year, he spent more than a week in the hospital.

Karunakaran has been remaining indoors of late and rarely attends public functions.
