BENGALURU: The BBMP has finally woken up to the plight of victims of dog bites. For the first time, the civic agency has come up with a compensation structure for them. Following a directive from the high court a few months ago, the Palike on Tuesday issued a set of guidelines under which victims will be paid for treatment, beginning with an amount of Rs 2,000. In case of death of an adult, the family will get Rs 1 lakh; for a minor, the compensation will amount to Rs 50,000. There won't be any compensation for bites or death caused by pet dogs. Even in instances where the dog's teeth have merely touched the skin, no compensation will be given. Dr T Shivarama Bhat, joint director (animal husba ndry), BBMP, said the Palike will pay Rs 2,000 per %puncture wound (hole), along with an additional treatment cost of Rs 1,000 per wound. "In case of deep black bruising, the victim will get Rs 3,000 per %puncture wound and Rs 2,000 as treatment cost. For multiple bites, the %figures will be Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
