BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court has suggested that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) should ensure that firecracker retailers vacate the various playgrounds in Bengaluru city on the very next day after the Diwali festival which concludes on October 20.
Justice BV Nagarathna has also asked the civic body to strictly notify the dates on which firecrackers should be sold at the denoted playgrounds in the city and also effectively enforce the terms and conditions contained in the permission letter so as to see that no retailer sells the crackers even beyond the permission date and cause nuisance to all concerned.
As regards to the petitioners and other similarly placed persons who want to set up stalls to sell crackers, the Judge has asked the BBMP to consider their applications and allow them to sell the items if they fulfill conditions at Ramamandira playground on 10th main, Rajajinagar just as they permitted similar applications with regards to 60 other notified playgrounds in the city.
Jaanavi and 21 others had moved the court complaining that the BBMP has not permitted them to sell crackers at Ramamandira playground this year and instead chosen two smaller grounds located in thickly populated residential areas.
