Bhatkal, 26 May: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Dr. Savitha Kamath, who is widely credited with reshaping the Bhatkal Taluk Government Hospital into one of the region's better-performing public healthcare institutions, has been transferred after serving as the hospital's administrator for nearly seven years.
Her transfer marks the end of a tenure during which the government hospital underwent a major transformation in infrastructure, healthcare services and public perception.
When Dr. Kamath assumed charge in 2018, the hospital was struggling with inadequate facilities, poor maintenance and criticism over the quality of healthcare services. Over the years, she spearheaded several initiatives that significantly improved both patient care and the hospital's functioning.
Working closely with philanthropists, social organisations and members of the local community, she mobilised funds to introduce facilities that had long been unavailable at the hospital. A dialysis unit, oxygen plant, new emergency ward, improved intensive care services and several other patient care facilities were established during her tenure.
The hospital also witnessed improvements in cleanliness, administration and overall service delivery, helping restore public confidence in the institution.
One of the defining phases of her administration came during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Kamath coordinated with health officials, elected representatives, volunteers and local organisations to strengthen the hospital's preparedness and ensure uninterrupted medical services during the public health crisis.
A senior anaesthesiologist by profession, Dr. Kamath belongs to the 1989 batch of Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Hubli.
Confirming her transfer, she shared a message thanking the people of Bhatkal for their support during her years at the hospital.
"Thank you for all the co-operation and support during my tenure in Bhatkal General Hospital. From today my services will be available at Shirali CHC," she said.
With her transfer, Dr. Kamath has been posted to the Community Health Centre at Shirali.
