DK is all smiles, tops in II PUC results too

MANGALURU: People of Dakshina Kannada have two reasons to cheer for with regard to the II PU results that was announced on Monday. The district has not only maintained its top ranking in the state, but also has improved its pass percentage from 86.04 in 2014 to 93.09 this year. Deputy director of PU education KR Thimmaiah told TOI that 93.09% results is an outstanding performance. "It is really an achievement. The district has secured 93.09% results when the state average is just 60.54%. I appreciate principals and lecturers of all the PU colleges in the district. They have worked hard to improve the standards of education," Thimmaiah said. "The credit goes to the united efforts of principals and lecturers.% In Dakshina Kannada, principals and lecturers have their own organizations. These organizations hold several programmes in association with the department to see to it that the standards of education is improved year after year. Being a person hailing from another district, I can say that we cannot see such enthusiasm among teachers in other places," he said lauding the support extended by the district administration. Deputy commissioner AB Ibrahim congratulated students, lecturers and principals of all PU colleges in the district. He also lauded the efforts of officials in the department of PU education. Deputy director Thimmaiah was felicitated by the DC at his office on Monday. Udupi, which has bagged the second place in the state, too has improved its pass percentage - from 85.57 in 2014 to 92.32% this year. In Dakshina Kannada, there are 184 PU colleges-54 government, 43 aided and 87 unaided colleges. As many as 34,733 students including 17,749 girls had appeared for the the exam ination. Colleges that excelled  Of the 281 students in Vikas PU College, 116 have secured distinction. Sangeetha KP (586), Amith PP (585) and Swapna M Pai (584) topped the institute. Expert PU College recorded 99.74% results. Of the 763 students who appeared for the exams, 761 students cleared it and 591 secured distinction. Shivani Poovaiah (591) is the college topper. Dishaa S has scored 586 marks securing a centum in physics, chemistry, maths and biology. -TOI
