The Eastern Province municipality has turned the Dammam Corniche into a work of art with an open gallery featuring paintings which have been inspired by the province’s environment and culture. The municipality has beautified the service stations and erased the graffiti on the walls bordering the Corniche. Faisal bin Abdullah Al-Thani, assistant secretary for Reconstruction and Projects, said that the campaign to beautify the Corniche included drawings on water tanks and electricity boxes which house meters as well as service stations. “The campaign seeks to intensify awareness of a clean and beautiful Corniche to reach all sections of society,” he said. He added that it reminds people of the importance of maintaining public property. “The government has spent a lot of time and effort to develop these recreational places and tourist destinations,” he observed. He said that these places deserve “our attention and the need to preserve them as they reflect our culture and aesthetics which bring joy to the visitors.” He added that he hoped that the beauty of the place would prevent people from tampering and vandalizing public property and inculcate in them a pride for their culture which is displayed in the paintings.
