Corporation team closes down shop at City Centre Mall

The shop owner had not renewed licence for two years MANGALURU, July 2, 2016:A team of health and environment officers of Mangaluru City Corporation, led by head of Standing Committee on Finance Kavita Sanil and councillor Rajaneesh, on Friday inspected some outlets at the City Centre Mall and a few others to verify trade licence and use of plastic bags. Ms. Sanil said that 8,026 shops in the city owed Rs. 1.26 crore towards renewal and issuance of fresh trade licence. She said that notices had been issued to shops and business establishments to renew their trade licence by June 30. Meanwhile, the civic body has also directed all shops not to use or sell plastic in any form. On Friday, the corporation team went to the City Centre Mall and found that a retail outlet, which sells high-end readymade clothing, had not renewed trade licence for two years. The team closed down the shop and asked the operator to get the trade licence renewed at the earliest. A notice was issued to another outlet selling high-end shoes for possessing non-woven plastic carry bags that have been banned. Coming out of the mall, the team went to a shop selling shoes and found that the shop did not have trade licence. This shop also possessed a good number of plastic carry bags. The officials closed down this shop too. Notice was issued to the adjoining cyber café-cum-juice joint for not renewing trade licence for two years. Ms. Sanil said that she wanted owners of shops and business establishments to pay requisite amount and get their trade licence renewed. In the last 20 days, 416 shop owners have renewed their licence, while 326 have secured fresh licence. The corporation has collected Rs. 16 lakh in the last 20 days, she said. Shops and business establishments should cooperate with the corporation officials and comply with statutory requirements for issuance of trade licence.
