Hyderabad, November 17:Going by the latest report from New Delhi, the Congress high command is planning to rope in its high profile MP and former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin to take on Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi in Hyderabad in the next Lok Sabha elections.

Azharuddin has a considerable respect among the Muslim community in Hyderabad and he is seen as a role model for the younger generations. The high command is learnt to have got this suggestion from AICC in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad and former state minister Mohammad Ali Shabbir. The party would get back the Muslim vote bank to a larger extent if Azhar enters the fray, sources said. And Azhar, who happens to be a close friend of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, would be more than happy to return to his home state and contest the elections from his hometown. In fact, during the 2009 elections, he sought the party ticket from Secunderabad constituency, since Hyderabad seat could not be given due to understanding with the MIM. But whether Azhar would be able to face bouncers from the MIM or would be duck out has to be seen. Courtesy: Great Andhra
