VADODARA: Students of the 73-year-old Shri Bharti School in Baranpura area were left shuddering when one of the class IX boys was found brutally stabbed to death in the washroom on Friday morning. At around 12 noon, some students who went to the washroom saw 14-year-old Dev Tadvi lying in a pool of blood. Dev, who joined the school just two days ago, is suspected to have been killed by a class X student. Police commissioner Manoj Sashidhar said, “We have got the CCTV footage that shows the the suspect entering the washroom with the victim. We are trying to trace him. But the motive of such a gruesome murder is still unclear.” “The classes of secondary section begin at 12 noon. When some students went to the washroom on the first floor at about 11.30 am, they found Dev lying in a pool of blood. Hearing their screams, our staff rushed there and called up the emergency services and the police,” said Surendra Singh, school principal. Police also found a school bag on the terrace of the temple that is next to this building. “The bag, which probably belongs to the suspects, had two sharp weapons, including a chopper and a sickle besides knuckles and a bottle full of red chilly powder,” a senior Wadi police station official said. Sashidhar said looking at the weapons it seems that the assailant had planned the murder and it was not in a fit of rage. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials said Dev was stabbed over 10 times with a sharp weapon and his throat was slit. He died due to excessive blood loss. Dev, whose parents live in Anand, had joined Shri Bharti as his previous school had classes only up to class VIII. His father works at a small tea stall on Vadtal Road in Anand. He also has a younger sister. As the family’s financial condition was very poor, his maternal uncle had brought him to Vadodara to stay with him and study. What intrigued the police as well as the management is that no one heard any scream for help even as there were so many students present. In fact, two classrooms that are located just beside the washroom also had full attendance. “Our school has students who belong to lower-middle and middle class. This is a very shocking incident for us,” Thakore Patel, trustee of this 73-year-old school. Source: Times Of India
