Cabinet approves govt's Lokpal draft; PM out of purview

The Union cabinet today cleared the draft of Lokpal Bill draft after discussing both Team Anna and the govt's versions of the bill.

The prime minister has been kept out of Lokpal purview.

The bill will be introduced during the monsoon session of Parliament.

The higher judiciary has not been included in Lokpal's purview; but will come under the Judicial Standards and Accountability Bill.

The Lokpal will have separate wings on inquiry and investigation but no power to prosecute. The prosecution to be done by judiciary.
