Belagavi, Dec 15: BJP will be holding state-wide protests and dharna in all district headquarters on Saturday against the shameful stripping incident in Belagavi, State BJP Chief B Y Vijayendra announced in Belagavi on Friday.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the ongoing State Legislature session in Belagavi, he said BJP workers, especially women, will participate in large numbers in these protests, which are being taken up to caution the government about the need to strengthen the law and order system in the state.

Vijayendra also announced that a five-member team from the BJP central unit would visit Belagavi district on Saturday to call on the victim who is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The State BJP Chief, who also visited the victim on Friday, told media persons that the government lacked the seriousness to take the issue to a logical end.

He alleged that this was evident in the fact that none of the ministers, barring Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara, had visited the victim though the incident had happened in Belagavi where the legislature session was being held.

Condemning the assault, he said the episode had made the entire state hang its head in shame.

The shameful episode of a woman being stripped naked and tied to a pole and beaten up by the family of a girl because the elopement of the woman’s son with the girl has already been taken up by the High Court as a suo motu case. The High Court has also directed the TV news channels not to air interviews with the victim.
