Bhatkal Police identify man behind fake Facebook profile used to post communally sensitive content during Murinkatte controversy

Bhatkal: Police have identified a 28-year-old man from Bhatkal for allegedly creating a fake Facebook account in another person's name and posting content intended to disturb communal harmony. As part of the investigation, his mobile phone has been seized for forensic examination.

According to police, the accused has been identified as Ishwar Krishna Naik (28), a resident of Uttarakoppa village who works as a sculptor.

Police said that he created a fake Facebook account under the name "Rohit Shetty" and used it to publish provocative posts and messages targeting another community in connection with the Murin Katte controversy in Bhatkal.

The account came to the notice of police during routine monitoring of social media platforms. Using cyber forensic techniques, police traced the origin of the account to Uttarakoppa and identified the suspected user.

Police have seized the accused's mobile phone and said the digital evidence stored on the device is being examined as part of the investigation.

Officials said a notice would be issued directing the accused to appear for questioning.
