Bhatkal 16 December 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) MLA Sunil Naik on Sunday, reached Heble to lay the foundation stone of a government school and college on a revenue land located there, only to find people protesting against the construction of the school and college buildings.
Local residents objected the construction of buildings there, adding that the plot helps them during the monsoon, when the sea level rises and heads towards their homes as the stay on the shores of the sea, in such a scenario the plot plays an important role in accommodating them until the sea level goes back to normal, and hence the construction on buildings here would hamper their conditions during monsoon.
Unmoved by the protests, MLA Sunil Naik stressed upon the fact that the land belongs to the government and using such lands for personal use is an offence. He however went ahead with the plan and laid the foundation stone of Kittur Rani Chennama residential school, Morarji Desai residential school, government degree college and government ITI college.
The land was sanctioned for the construction of the four mentioned institutions during former CM Siddaramaiah’s Bhatkal visit in December 2017.
All the four institutions are currently being run at a rented property and are expected to be transferred here soon as the construction of the buildings is completed.
