Bhatkal: Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem elections on May 12

Bhatkal: The triennial election of Majlis Islah wa Tanzeem, a well-known social and organisational body in Uttara Kannada district, is scheduled to be held on May 12. The election process has commenced, election commissioner Muhiyuddeen Altaf Kharoori said.

 

Election schedule and nomination process

As per the announced schedule, candidates can obtain and submit nomination papers from April 30 to May 3 till 6.30 pm, along with a fee of Rs 500. May 3 is the last date for filing nominations, while scrutiny will be held on May 4. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until 6.30 pm on May 5, and the final list of candidates will be published on May 6.

 

Polling and counting details

Voting will take place on May 12 from 9 am to 5 pm, and counting of votes will begin on the same day. Candidates in seats with no contest will be declared elected unopposed. The election commissioner stated that the model code of conduct will be strictly enforced. The official results will be announced on May 14, and members have been urged to actively participate in the democratic process.

 

Composition of the governing body

The organisation’s governing body consists of 132 members. The selection of 10 members from the outgoing administration has already been completed. In the May 12 election, 45 members will be elected from Bhatkal, 17 from other parts of the country, and 40 from overseas.

 

In addition, seven Shura (advisory council) members will be elected from Bhatkal.

 

Further appointments and meetings

During the first governing body meeting scheduled for June 4, 10 more members will be selected. Representatives for areas where elections are not held will also be appointed in the same meeting.

 

The election of new office-bearers will take place on June 14. Following this, the president will have the authority to nominate three additional members, completing the total strength of 132 members. Apart from this, the organisation will also have five patrons.

 

Membership data

According to official figures, the organisation has 1,903 general members in Bhatkal, 491 in other parts of India, and 1,483 members overseas, the release stated.
