Bhatkal, 06 Nov: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Adding another milestone to his cricketing journey, Bhatkal's Ritesh has been selected for the Karnataka squad for the 2026-27 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, following a series of impressive performances in the Ranji Trophy.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association announced the 15-member squad on November 6. Karnataka is scheduled to play its first three matches of the tournament in Mumbai from November 14 to 26.
Ritesh's selection is the result of years of hard work in the local cricket circuit. He made his First-Class debut for Karnataka this year at the age of 33, after taking around 60 wickets in the lower divisions last season.
His performances in the Ranji Trophy have since strengthened his place in the state setup. In the match against Assam, Ritesh combined with fellow spinner Shikhar Shetty to claim all 10 wickets, restricting the opposition to 135 runs. The duo made effective use of the dry, turning surface through disciplined bowling and variations in pace.
Ritesh has also shown his ability with the bat. He scored 74 runs off 100 balls in the match against Tripura, adding another valuable contribution to his campaign.
In Bhatkal, Ritesh represents Asadullah Cricket Club and has been a vital part of the team's lineup for several years in taluka-level cricket tournaments. His rise from local cricket to the Karnataka state squad is a significant achievement for the club and the town's cricketing community.
Speaking about his journey, Ritesh had recently said he had worked hard for seven to eight years while waiting for an opportunity to represent Karnataka. Although playing for the country remains his ultimate ambition, he said his immediate priority is to help Karnataka win matches and end its 11-year wait for the Ranji Trophy title.
