Beware: Bhatkal police now using wheel locks against parking rules offenders

Bhatkal 1 September 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Bhatkal Police Department after taking into confidence the Bhatkal Merchant Association and Auto-Driver’s Union implemented one way traffic parking on Bhatkal main road, earlier in July this year. During the meeting between police department and officials of Bhatkal Merchant Association and Auto-Driver's union in July, it was proposed that one way parking system be implemented once again in the town, as earlier it was experimental in bringing down traffic congestion, but was later discontinued due to irregularities and owing to non supervision of the department. However, after noticing frequent violations of the parking rules in the town, the police department has now added wheel locks into its armory lately, and are now locking the wheels of the vehicles which are being parked into the 'no parking zone' violating the parking regulations. Speaking to Bhatkallys.com a police official confirmed the use of wheel locks while adding that a fine of Rs. 100 is being collected for violating the parking regulations and moreover, all the documents of the vehicles including the driving license of the driver will be checked upon finding the bike parked in 'no parking zone'. "The officials will lock the vehicles and move, they won't wait for the drivers to come and pay the fine, the driver will have to visit police station and pay the fine to release their vehicle". "If the documents are not adequate or outdated, further appropriate fine will be imposed on the vehicle" he added. Local were quick to notice the development and spread a word about it on social media groups, as a WhatsApp message started doing rounds 'alerting' the fellow drivers about the new equipment being used by the police.
